Set-up your own WAP @ home…
1. You will need a computer. (Of course.)
But make sure it has a wireless adapter installed. A wireless notebook adapter for laptops may it be built-in or external and a wireless PCI adapter for the desktops.
2. An internet connection.
Hmmm… Cable or DSL??? Does not matter. As long as it’s active and it’s there.
3. A router or an acess point.
Make sure that it’s also configured properly with the internet connection you have. They usually have a UI so just follow the instructions on the user guide and if you’re getting an ipaddress on the status page then maybe you’re good to go.
5. Personalize your wireless network.
If you do not know how to set this up then call tech support. It is also found at the router’s set-up page. Type in a name for your SSID and do not forget to secure it. And, for the love of God, remember your password or otherwise known as the network key.
6. Site your network.
The laptop comes with a wireless utility that manages the wireless card. Use it to find the name of your network and connect to it. If it’s asking for a network key then type it in. It is always recommended to secure the network. You don’t want anybody to be piggy-backing on your network, right?
7. Surf and slide.
Already connected to the wireless network? Great! Now you’re already Wifi. Look ma! No wires!!
